Park Species Detail: Maxon, 1935: Known only from the mainland. Wiegand, 2001b: an uncommon watchlist plant occurring in elevated areas of scour prairie and overwash savanna habitat where soils are well-drained and often dry during the growing season. Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa) is scattered and occasional in this area, some years being more common and other years appearing less commonly. No more than half-a-dozen plants were seen in this area during the current survey. It usually grows in a dry, sandy substrate amid minimal competition. Found at 1 site. A watch list (and otherwise uncommon) plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.), Park Species Data Source: Maxon, 1935;Wiegand, 2001b
