Occurrence Notes
An uncommon winter resident in low-elevation desertscrub and riparian habitats along the Colorado River, breeding there in early spring. Numbers along the river decline in May and June, while at the same time it becomes an uncommon summer and fall visitor to Great Basin desertscrub, pinyon-juniper woodlands, and grasslands elsewhere in the region. A second round of breeding, likely from a distinct population, takes place during summer along the river and in other desertscrub habitats (Brown et al. 1987). The complex seasonal movements of the species are still not fully understood. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
