Park Species Detail: Lam, 1985:Voucher specimens collected during this survey (May, 1984-May, 1985) and stored at George Mason University herbarium./Dodge, 2000:Vouchered specimen for this species (See Voucher Profile)./ Hamilton, 2005: Voucher specimens probable at George Mason University (GMUF), College of William and Mary (WILLI), and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI)./Lam, 1985: It appeared that D. virginiana grew in a high concentration along the shore near Pope's Creek. It was one of only three tree species that can survive there in the sands. The others were Celtis occidentalis and Acer negundo.
