Tulane University voucher specimen by Nolfo #7 was misidentified and redetermined to by Schoenoplectus pungens by Ferguson and Gunn-Zumo, 2007. A voucher specimen for Scirpus olneyi (=Schoenoplectus americanus) was not located at Tulane University by Ferguson in 2008. These reports are most likely Schoenoplectus pungens, a segregate species from Schoenoplectus americanus (see Flora of North America Vol. 23).
