Park Species Detail: Lea, Chris (2003): Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv. COCKSPUR GRASS. Poaceae. Introduced, native to Eurasia. Annual herb. Jul-Nov. Disturbed area (temporary pool along roadside). Rare. Present in MD end (Lea, 2003)Reported from Virginia end by Stalter and Lamont (1990). Hamilton s.n./ (referring to Echinochloa muricata (Beauv.) Fern.) = Hill, 1986: Native to region. Aug.-Oct. Annual herb. Infrequent to rare on Assateague, seen only at bridge causeway, where it may have been introduced. Infrequent in MD overall. Reported as E. pungens (Poir.) Rydb. var. microstachya (Wieg.) Fern. & Grisc. by Higgins (Higgins #39), a synonym; found by her only on the VA end. Apparently reported as E. crus-galli (L.) Beauv. by Harvill (1967).
