Park Species Detail: Lea, 2000: Carex typhina Michaux (Cattail Sedge)Rare. Edges of forested vemal pools, Bear Island and Fletcher's floodplain. This is the first record for the species for the Potomac Gorge and for the District of Columbia. C. typhina has been considered highly rare in Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program, 1994), but is now known to be more frequent in the state.
