Park Species Detail: Carex tonsa (Fernald) Bicknell var. tonsa (Shaved Sedge)Infrequent, but perhaps overlooked. In rocky riverside xeric oak-pine terrace forest, and on rockoutcrops in upland forests. Seen in Gold Mine Tract and at Bear and High Islands and is likely elsewhere.This species has been listed as highly rare in Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program,-1994b), it has been evidently much overlooked or misidentified.
