Notes
Park Species Detail: growing in the tidal section, through 3" thick styrofoam. Charlie: Dorothy Geyer gave us some good ideas regarding garden maintenance: 1) A large section of the patriotic meadow is covered with fescue and crabgrass. She suggested Roundup treatment this fall, followed by re-seeding. Fall or Spring? When Paul seeded in the fall, many of the seeds got rained out, but it would be good, if they are perennials, to get them started in the fall. 2) Karen and Dorothy discussed outlining the butterfly garden with metal edging and anchors. Dorothy showed me a piece of this. While plastic is available, if we can at all afford it, metal edging is a better product. Dorothy measured the areas yesterday: Allowing for the bends in the pathway, and a generous overestimate for both sides, the linear footage is 410 feet. 3) Water is flowing from the impervious surface of the patio, down a lower section in the butterfly garden, and stopping at the gravel/stone pathway bordering the wetland garden, before draining off to the side. Dorothy suggested filling the lower area of the garden with soil, so the grades are similar, and then creating a four-foot wide gravel pathway (to match the existing gravel pathways) from the patio gravel pathway, curving to the stone pathway by the wetlands garden., Park Species Data Source: Hammerschlag, 2000; Davis, 1996; Bioblitz, 1996; Species List moved from the park code KEPA to KEAQ on 2024-12-27
