Park Species Detail: Lea, 2000: Carex brevior (Dewey) Mackenzie (Short-beaked Sedge)Rare. Seen at single location in bedrock terrace forest, Bear Island. The species is considered highly rare in Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program, 1994). This is the first record of C. brevior for the Potomac Gorge and for Montgomery County.
