Park Species Detail: Connery et al. (1998): Reported this species during searches of watersheds within the park during 1997. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Present at the shore by Wonderland; abundant in spruce forests on MDI and common in mixed woods. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; maximum fall count of 14 at Otter Point on 12 September 1964 (L. Kress). Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Allen (1969): Most abundant bird at Western Point; 6 nesting pairs estimated in the study area based on observations of singing males. Bond (1969) commonest summer resident of MDI, certainly the most abundant in the spruce woods. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI between 25 June and 5 July 1959; considered a breeding bird. Palmer (1949) Observed on 16 November 1934 at Bar Harbor. Bond (19??) very common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Nest found overhanging the Jordan Pond Trail. Sullivan (1937): Abundant summer resident from May to October; nest with 4 eggs noted on 11 June 1925 (no location given). Farley (1935) reported 74+ pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 1 June 1915 and 25 May 1916. Allen (1899): abundant on MDI between 1880 and 1899., Park Species Data Source: Connery et al.
