Park Species Detail: Lea, 2000: Carex albursina Sheldon (White Bear Sedge)Rare. In mesophytic alluvial terrace forests. Found in small numbers, at Bear, Vaso, and High Islands; more numerous at Turkey Run Park. C. albursina is a calciphilic species that is rare in the Piedmont, where it is apparently restricted to the Potomac and Susquehanna valleys. It is considered a watchlist species in Maryland (Maryland Natural Heritage Program 1994). Early May to late May. 1455 (US); 452 (MARY); 880 (Tawes). Wiegand, 2001: Documented from Maryland during this survey from Sandy Hook, Maryland, to District of Columbia line.Watch List plant species, not officially listed by the State of Maryland nor by the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Division.
