Notes
Park Species Detail: Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. July-Oct. Dunegrass, Hudsonia dunes, woodland, shrub succession, roadsides. Infrequent on Assateague, see Vegetation Mapping Report. Considered rare in MD overall, restricted to the coast, by MD Natural Heritage Program. Similar to E. spectabilis and probably often mistaken for it. Not reported by Higgins. MD only. Slide: B8f-49./ Lea, Chris April, 2000:This species is a fairly common and widespread grass on the island, with numerous occurrences found by Hamilton. It is a characteristic species of dry woodlands, shrublands, and maritime grasslands. It is well-adapted to disturbed areas and is often seen colonizing abandoned roads. It is somewhat cryptic and may also be confused with Eragrostis spectabilis (Pursh) Steud. Given its apparent adaptations to [even anthropogenic] disturbance, it seems secure on the island. No special management needs are contemplated. Based on Assateague populations alone, a rank change to S3 is recommended (S3=Rare to uncommon; usually between 20 and 100 populations or occurrences; may have fewer occurrences, but with a large number of individuals in some populations; may be susceptible to large-scale disturbances)., Park Species Data Source: Lea, 2000
