Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Few summer on MDI, one record of species summering at Southwest Harbor and a nest with 2 eggs was found near Otter Creek; no other details of nesting given. Russell (1984?) Common breeder, The Beech Hill area and the deciduous patches along the Seal Cove Fire Road have had singing males in the past few years. Bond (1969) few summer on MDI except on the burnt land; heard during the breeding season in the scrubby growth between McFarland Mountain and Aunty Betty Pond, and near the new Eagle Lake Road. Bond (19??) rare summer resident; common locally on the mainland. Tyson and Bond (1941): Rare summer resident on MDI; Nests with regularity in the vicinity of Canada Hollow, near Echo Lake; Very rare on MDI. Sullivan (1937): Uncommon summer resident; several pairs seen at Echo Lake by Tyson (Pellew). Farley (1935) reported 4 (birds? Pairs?) along Seal Cove Pond between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931) Rare in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; one heard east of Northeast Harbor on June 18, 1931; common in some years, scarce in other years.
