Infraspecific varietal standings within Viola vallicola have been removed as per Intermountain Flora (Vol 2B, 2005): "I cannot separate into morphologically recognizable, geographically significant groups," and A Utah Flora (3rd ed, 2003): "Only arbitrary separation [between vars. major and vallicola] seems possible."
