Occurrence Notes
A common winter resident along the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam to Soap Creek (RM 11). It is a rare spring (February to May) and fall (August to November) migrant at open water throughout the region. Wintering birds peak in January and February before declining rapidly in March (Spence et al. 2009). Redhead is among the many species that have begun to winter on the river below Glen Canyon Dam since the publication of the last checklist. It is also an irregular summer visitor along the Colorado River. Redhead is a rare migrant at open water elsewhere in the region through almost the entire year, with fall migrants occurring from 29 Jul to 2 Dec and spring birds passing from 13 Feb to 7 Jun. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
