Park Species Detail: Long (1987): Widespread on MDI. Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was observed within park boundaries. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) commong spring through fall. Eastern Kingbirds are widespread. Breakneck Ponds and Beaverdam Pond have supported pairs in each of the last 4 years. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) more numerous as transients than as summer residents on MDI; lately observed most frequently during the breeding season in the Emery District south of Salisbury Cove and at beaver ponds on the burnt lands. Bond (19??) not uncommon summer resident, more numerous as a transient; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Rare on MDI in summer; nest and egg found in Town Hill in 1939. Sullivan (1937): Summer resident; rather common from May to September. Eliot (1931) Not observed on MDI during June or July 1931 but previously reported from the island; apparently common in the northwestern part of MDI. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 1 June 1916. Allen (1899): rather common on MDI between 1880 and 1899., Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997); North and Chidester (1986); Russell (1984?); Duley and North (1984) Legacy NPSpecies information may no longer be applicable, please remove if it is not applicable. In legacy NPSpecies Residency was Unknown with comment: Witt (1997) mentions that Breakneck and Beaverdam Ponds have supported "pairs", suggesting breeding, but no evidence given. Adamus (1983) breeding throughout Maine including the ANP region.
