Notes
Park Species Detail: Daw 2003a. Personal Communication with Don Masden, Wildlife Biologist, Colorado Division of Wildlife, March 5. This phone conversation concerned the Gunnison sage grouse at BLCA and CURE. Don told me that he had personally seen Gunnison sage grouse inside of the northern boundary of BLCA during the fall and winter, as well as some brood-rearing activity (not necessarily nesting) in the summer. He did not record these observations in field notes, but suggested I speak with NPS folks to see if they had that kind of documentation. Although nesting has not been documented inside the Park, it is certainly a possibility. Several leks breed within a couple miles of northern boundary - the Crawford population - consisting of several active leks: Range Cone, Section 35, Dam, Fruitland Mesa 1 + 8 other inactive leks. He confirmed that breeding does occur within CURE in the Iola 1 and Iola 2 leks., Park Species Data Source: Giroir 2004, Bibkey #567182
