Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Few nests have been found. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) Very common resident. The largest aggregation noted was over 300 birds at Bass Harbor on 11 November 1969 (D. Smith). Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) ubiquitous, but few nests have been found. Davis (1961): Present in his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the summer of 1959; also observed or heard from his spruce/fir study plots within the park on MDI during the winter of 1958/59 and/or 1959/60. Bond (19??) common resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Widespread on MDI. Sullivan (1937): Abundant resident; young just out of nest observed on 17 June and 26 June 1924 (Pellew). Anthony (1933): 1 banded at Great Head between 12 August 1929 and 26 June 1933. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 13 June 1916 and 31 June 1916. Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924. Adamus (1983) breeds throughout Maine.
