Hossack et al. (2002) observed at least 2 snakes in the North Unit. It was also observed by Hopkins et al. (1983) and Hansen et al. (1980) in the park.

Hopkins et al. (1983) stated that this species was "fairly common" in the shrub-steppe vegetation. Hansen et al. (1980) reported this species was observed frequently and it was apparently most abundant in shrub-steppe vegetation.
