Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, Chris (2003):Carex longii Mack. LONG'S SEDGE. Cyperaceae. Native. Perennial herb. May-Aug. Fresh marsh, disturbed areas, shrub succession. Frequent. Present on MD end (Lea, 2003). Reported by Higgins et al. (1971) from Virginia end but included by Hill (1986) under a broad concept of Carex albolutescens Schwein. C. longii and C. albolutescens are best treated as distinct species, with identification and nomenclatural confusion regarded as the basis for their combination by some authors (Rothrock 1991). Collector ID# Hill 13943, 14030, 14254, 14424, 15736./ (Plot Code = ASIS.67; Plant Symbol = CAAL5; From PLANTS Database = -1; Source = SY; Stratum Sort = 7; Stratum = H; Diagnostic = 0; Real Cover(%) = 0.5; User = hlh/ Lea, Chris (2003):Record deleted from flora of the Maryland end:Carex albolutescens Schwein. GREEN-WHITE SEDGE. Cyperaceae. Hill (1986) reported this species for Maryland and Virginia end, based on collections determined during this study to be C. longii. The report of C. albolutescens from the Virginia end (Stalter and Lamont 1990) is also likely to be based on C. longii./ Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. May-Aug. Fresh marsh, also in wet soils in woodlands. Infrequent but widespread. Reported as C. longii Mackenzie by Higgins (Higgins #89), usually considered a synonym, although this name can be accepted if one splits the species.
