Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, C. April, 2000:The single occurrence reported by Hill (1984) was searched for by Hamilton in 1998 and was not relocated. The potential habitat (open, freshwater wetlands) for the species is extensive in this area and the location given by Hill (1984) is somewhat general, so that the occurrence and the species may well be extant on Assateague. No rank change is recommended./ Hill, 1986: Native. Annual herb. Aug.-Oct. Fresh marsh, wet sands, full sun. Rare on Assateague. See Vegetation Mapping Report. Rare, found in MD ca. 3 mi N of the VA line. Considered very rare by the MD Natural Heritage Program. The Higgins specimen was found in VA, 9/17/66, and was reported as A. teres Raf., usually considered a synonym of this species (Higgins #289). MD & VA. Slide: B59-3./ Hamilton, 2004: Voucher specimen probable at MARY./, Park Species Data Source: Hill, 1986
