Common across the Snake River Plain, but apparently rare in the Monument and the Shoshone BLM. Nearly all annual fescues in CRMO are Festuca (Vulpia) microstachys var pauciflora (= F. pacifica).

Note: Common in other parts of the Snake River Plain, but truly very uncommon in this Park Unit; Festuca pacifica, which is common in this Park Unit, is often misidentified as Festuca octoflora by the inexperienced. Habitat in this Park Unit = Generally occurring (or expected to occur) throughout the Park Unit, usually except at greatest elevations of the foothills; often in sandy sites.
