Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Present around the edges of Big Heath. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; maximum spring count of 19 along the Acadia Mountain Fire Road on 29 May 1972 (W. Russell); The fire road by Acadia Mountain, the Beech Mountain trails, and the land between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake are prime locations. Bond (1969) one nest found beside the path to The Bowl, also another nest discovered on the border of a clearing near Denning Brook. Palmer (1949) Nest observed with 1 egg on 1 June 1930 at Great Head (Mrs. E.A. Anthony). Bond (19??) fairly common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Common and widespread summer resident on MDI; nest with 5 eggs found beside the path to The Bowl. Sullivan (1937) Rather common summer resident from May to September; young just leaving nest found 21 June 1924 (no location given)(Pellew). Farley (1935) reported 3 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931, less generally distributed. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 9 June 1915.
