(Weakley 2007) In legacy NPSpecies Pest value was Yes with comment: Natureserve I-Rank: Medium/Insignificant I-Rank Reasons Summary: Widespread throughout the US, this commonly cultivated plant apparently readily escapes to nearby habitats. In the Pacific Northwest, populations of Centaurea cyanus are apparently persistent. Other Centaurea spp. have been linked with changes in nutrient cycles and economic losses, however, no such effects have been reported for C. cyanus.
