Long (1987): Abundant on MDI since the 1940s. Often observed on all parts of MDI.
Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; rare in winter; They are common around the park headquarters.
Favour (1970) reports this species on the MDI CBC on 31 December 1966 at an Otter Creek feeder; also observed on 28 December 1969 at feeder in Bar Harbor.
Allen (1969) 1 pair estimated in the study area at Western Point.
Bond (1969) increased as a summer resident on MDI since the fire of 1947; abundant on the burnt lands.
Bond (19??) not common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Regular and common summer resident on MDI.
Sullivan (1937): rare summer resident; Pair seen at Northeast Harbor in May 1924 by Tyson; list other observations (no locations given, just dates).
