Notes
Park Species Detail: Connery et al. (1998): Reported this species during searches of watersheds within the park during 1997. Sawdy (1997) Verified by sight, sound, or sign at Indian Point between 21 April and 28 May 1997. Coman (1987, 1981) occurs all over MDI in suitable habitat; population goes through cyclic changes; seen along parkland roadsides and carriage paths. Acadia National Park (1976): reported as abundant on MDI during 1962, 1964, and 1965; reported as common on MDI during 1968 and 1976; reported as rare on MDI during 1969-1973. Barden (1970) species is much scarcer in 1970 on MDI than they were 3 years ago. Allen (1969): Present at Western Point. Calhoun (1951) reported rabbit droppings all around one of his small mammal transects during April 1950. Stupka (1933) estimates 500 hare on MDI and 80 of these are reportedly within park boundaries; also reports that numbers are increasing appreciably. Manville (1942) widespread at all elevations but not plentiful in 1939; reports that 900 were trapped near Seawall in the fall of 1931 and shipped to sportsmen in Pennsylvania., Park Species Data Source: Connery et al.
