Park Species Detail: Witt (1997): Breeding at Great Meadow, Northeast Creek, Seal Cove Pond, Breakneck Ponds, Schooner Head Marsh, Aunt Betty's Pond, and Witch Hole Pond. Connery et al. (1998): Reported this species during searches of watersheds within the park during 1997. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): southern end of Seal Cove Pond is a good place to see this species; No details of breeding given. Russell (1984?) Present at Northeast Creek, Breakneck Ponds areas during the breeding season (no nests have been discovered). Migrating birds are more widely distributed (see observation). Uncommon spring and fall migrant, uncommon in summer. Bond (1969) Nesting on MDI. Palmer (1949) "Summer resident, uncommon to fairly common throughout, maybe including a few inshore islands but no records except for Mt. Desert Island;". Bond (19??) Summer resident of MDI; rare, more numerous as a transient; juvenile individuals have been observed. Tyson and Bond (1941): Rare and local summer resident on MDI; nesting in Fresh Meadow, Aunt Bettys Pond, and Seal Cove Pond. Sullivan (1937): Uncommon summer resident, early May to October; breeds at Bass Harbor. Eliot (1931) Not observed on MDI during June or July 1931 but previously reported from the island; often seen, and a nest found near Bass Harbor a few years ago.
