Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996; not sure if this species was recorded within park boundaries. Long (1987): Only 1 reported on MDI prior to 1940, has increased steadily since and now is well established on MDI. Sever pairs nest in the vicinity of Sieur de Monts Spring. Russell (1984?) Uncommon spring and fall migrant, common breeder; increasing in the last 10 years; maximum fall count of 5 at Sieur de Monts Spring on 23 September 1972 (W. Russell). Bond (1969) southern thrush as increased steadily on MDI and is now well established as a summer resident in the northeastern part of MDI. Prior to 1940, only one had been reported; several pairs occur in the vicinity of Sieur de Monts Spring. Palmer (1949): one seen and heard on 20 May 1942 at Great Pond on MDI; also 1 seen and heard on 25 May 1942 at Ship Harbor by Bond; 1 seen and heard on 19 and 20 June 1944 at Great Pond; and believed heard singing on the Jordans Point trail on 19 July 1893 by H.M. Spelman. Bond (1949): Bond observed this species in the morning of May 20, 1942 and June 19, 1944 at Great Pond. Bond (19??) vagrant from the south; possibly a very rare summer resident (4 records from May to July, 3 are recent).
