Notes
Park Species Detail: Long (1987): Several nesting records on MDI. North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986. Russell (1984?) common breeder, very common fall migrant. Breed on the ledges and exposed areas of Cadillac Mountain. In the fall, flocks of migrating birds can be seen almost anywhere, sometimes in large numbers. Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984. Bond (1969) often seen in early summer on the burnt land; several nesting records from MDI, including one from the southern ridge of Cadillac Mountain. Palmer (1949) late date is 2 seen on 13 September 1941 on MDI. Bond (19??) rather rare summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Not common during summer but frequently seen during migration in late summer; nesting on Picket Mountain (Huguenot Head); also nesting on the south ridge of Cadillac Mtn (see picture in Tyson and Bond 1941). Sullivan (1937): Summer resident, abundant from middle of May to September; 2 eggs noted on 21 June 1924 on Pickett Mountain (Pellew). Farley (1935) reports 4 (birds? Pairs?) south of Seal Cove Pond between 12 June and 22 June 1934. Eliot (1931): Uncommon in the Northeast Harbor area during June 1931; a pair is probably breeding on Schoolhouse Ledge; Other observations include 3 at Town Hill on 4 July 1931, one south of Bar Harbor on 9 July 1931, one at Pretty Marsh on 12 July 1931, and 2 downy chicks on the ridge of Jordan Mounain on 14 July 1931. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 5 June 1915. Reiche and Burton (1924) observed or collected in the Oak Meadow region east of Newport (=Champlain) Mountain between 1 July and 8 August, 1924. Allen (1899): common migrant (also breeds) on MDI between 1880 and 1899., Park Species Data Source: Witt (1997); Long (1987); North and Chidester (1986); Russell (1984?); Duley and North (1984); Bond (1969); Tyson and Bond (1941); Sullivan (1937); Eliot (1931); Reiche and Burton (1924)
