Park Species Detail: Sawdy (1997) 19 captures (of 22 total captures) at Indian Point between 21 April and 28 May 1997. Garman (1991): 621 captures of 313 individuals during trapping in 1987 and 1988 in aspen-birch and red spruce habitats; most abundant small mammal trapped; species determined using a modification of the electrophoretic technique of salivary amylase. Coman (1987, 1981): Present on Mount Desert Island. Abundant on MDI. Packie and Nadeau (1975): Trapped within the park on MDI at Hadlock Pond; 15 individuals trapped; species id confirmed by discriminant function analysis and enzyme analysis. Davis (1961): Trapped within spruce/fir study sites within the park; 2 immatures were noted at Otter Point. Calhoun and Arata (1957): trapped on MDI during 1952, exact locations unknown. Calhoun (1956): trapped on MDI during 1951, exact locations unknown. Calhoun (1951) trapped on MDI during 1950, exact locations unknown. Calhoun (1950): Trapped on MDI during November 1949, exact locations unknown. Manville (1942): Probably most abundant and widespread mammal on MDI, ranges from sea level to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Appears to be the most numerous mouse at higher elevations. Nest with 6 adults found near Sieur de Monts Spring on 11 January 1935 (W. Parsons). Branin (1939): One of the most abundant small mammals on MDI; specimens taken at The Tarn, Sieur de Monts Spring, Public Camp Ground, Anemone Cave, Eagle Lake, Cadillac Mountain summit, Kebo Valley Country Club, woods-meadow east of Champlain Mountain, Seawall, and Pretty Marsh.
