Park Species Detail: Checklist information (abundance, nativity) updated 4/11/03 by professional judgement of Bruce Connery, ACAD wildlife biologist.
Witt (1997): 10 records on Mount Desert Island (Witt 1997) although none appear within park boundaries.
Long (1987): No evidence of nesting.
Russell (1984?) casual visitor fall through spring. A hand-written note lists this species at Otter Point on 21 January 1975 (W. Russell) and at Bass Harbor on 5 June 1975 (N. Famous).
Favour (1970): observed during the MDI CBC on 31 December 1965 (see observation).
Bond (1969) a pair was reported seen many years ago on Beech Mountain during the second summer after a forest fire. Numerous records during the winter months.
Bond (19??) Vagrant, a very rare resident on the mainland, and may nest occasionally on MDI.
