Park Species Detail: Wiegand, 2001: The only currently reported site in Maryland for Virginia false-gromwell (Onosmodium virginianum) was successfully updated (from Sandy Hook, Maryland to District of Columbia line). Two vegetative plants were seen during 2000 field surveys. This occurrence has declined during the past 15 years and may no longer be viable. Heavy deer browse and trampling from hikers has been seen on these plants during recent years. In 1994 this occurrence was reported as four groups of plants containing 10 to 20 plants each. Bartgis, 1993: State Endangered plant, found in Potomac Fall-Line. Wiegand, 1999: Plant species documented in the survey area (from Great Falls, Maryland, downriver to the District of Columbia) during this survey.
