Notes
Park Species Detail: Lea, Chris April, 2000:Hill (1986) reported this species from only the Bunting Cabin area on the Maryland part of Assateague. This perennial salt marsh species was found to be widely distributed, but somewhat infrequent, in low (Spartina alterniflora Loisel dominated) salt marshes during the present survey. Based on Assateague populations alone, the rank of this species in Maryland would probably be S2S3 (S2= Very rare; usually between 6 and 20 populations or occurrences; or with many individuals in fewer occurrences; often susceptible to becoming extirpated. S3=Rare to uncommon; usually between 20 and 100 populations or occurrences; may have fewer occurrences, but with a large number of individuals in some populations; may be susceptible to large-scale disturbances) No specific management or conservation actions are contemplated./ Hamilton, 2004: Voucher specimens probable at MARY and CNWR./ Hill, 1986: Native. Perennial herb. Aug.-Oct. Salt marsh. Rare on the MD portion of Assateague, seen only at the Bunting cabin. Considered infrequent by MNHP. More frequent in VA. (Higgins #175). Also called Sarcocornia perennis (Mull.) A.J. Scott. MD & VA., Park Species Data Source: Lea, 2000
