Notes
Park Species Detail: Wiegand, 2001b: occurs in elevated areas of scour prairie and overwash savanna habitat where soils are well-drained and often dry during the growing season. Late purple aster (Aster patens) is scattered throughout this area in dry sandy substrate, especially in thin soil deposits on bare rock. Among the later flowering plants of this area, it is showy and very hardy - but still is not especially abundant. Found in 2 sites. A watch list (and otherwise uncommon) plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.), Park Species Data Source: Maxon, 1935;Wiegand, 2001b
