Notes
Park Species Detail: Wiegand, 2001: Three new and eight previously reported occurrences for Sweet-scented Indian-plantain (Hasteola suaveolens) were documented during this survey (from Sandy Hook, Maryland to District of Columbia line). All but three of these Occurrences contain five or fewer plants, and total number of plants reported during this survey is approximately 300. Two hundred of these occur at a single site in Frederick County. No plants could be located at six sites where sweet-scented Indian-plantain was previously known to occur. In Maryland, the species is currently known from only one site away from the Potomac River and C&O Canal NHP. Bartgis, 1993: Found in Potomac Fall-Line; one of several plants considered to be rare throughout their range and are under review for potential federal listing. Wiegand, 2001b: Two previously reported occurrences for Sweet-scented Indian-plantain (Hasteola suaveolens), listed as a highly rare plant species in D.C., were successfully updated during 1999-2000 field surveys. Suitable habitat for Sweet-scented Indian-plantain is abundant in the vicinity, so these occurrences could be more extensive than reported here.Status surveys for this species are highly recommended to determine its current status at Chain Bridge Flats Survey Site. Found at 2 sites. A Highly Rare plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.) Also a listed species in Maryland.
