One of Most abundant species. Fl. Early April to mid May. Cranberry Meadows, 1997: Abundant, Cranberry Meadows; Common, Chain Bridge Flats above Chain Bridge. BioBlitz, 1997-Chain Bridge Flats: Mile Post 4 to AZ Ave on flats, woods, riverside, Warren Steiner, Jil Swearingen, Larry Morse; nice, uninvaded floodplain forest. Wiegand, 2001b: An uncommon plant species occurring in rich floodplain forest on slightly elevated terraces above the river between the C&O Canal and the more open, scoured bedrock. Golden ragwort (Senecio aureus) was scattered throughout floodplain forest habitat. .Several thousand flowering plants were seen, growing in rich alluvial sand and around the moist edges of vernal pools. It probably also occurs in similar habitat between the Maryland/D.C. line and Arizona Avenue. Found at 2 sites. A watch list (and otherwise uncommon) plant species known to occur within the District of Columbia portion of LOCO (along the C&O Canal NHP and Potomac River from the Maryland line to Key Bridge, Washington, D.C.), Park Species Data Source: Cranberry Meadows, 1997;Leeson, n.d.;Maxon, 1935;Terrell, 1970;Wiegand, 2001;Wiegand, 2001b; BioBlitz, 1997-Chain Bridge Flats;
