A common permanent resident of pinyon-juniper, ponderosa pine, and mixed conifer forests throughout the region. It is an irregular fall migrant and an uncommon winter resident and spring migrant along the Colorado River and in Great Basin desertscrub on the Tonto Platform from 6 Oct through 22 Apr.
