A common permanent resident of mixed conifer, ponderosa pine, and pinyon-juniper forests throughout the region. It is an uncommon fall and winter visitor in tributary riparian habitats at lower elevations. There is only one record from along the Colorado River: one was at Phantom Ranch on 25 May 1978 (Rick Ernenwein). Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011.
