The Sonoran Gopher snake is primarily found on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Gopher snakes can be found in every landscape in the Grand Canyon, including the wooded forests of the Rims, the dry scrub inside the Canyon, and the desert environments of western Grand Canyon

Pituophis catenifer affinis (Sonoran Gopher Snake) is a common species of the plateau prairie, desert scrub, pinyon-juniper and ponderosa pine habitats. The species occurs mostly in the Upper Sonoran and Transition Life Zones, primarily on the South Rim. Sightings have been reported from Hermit Rest, Yavapai Point, Grand Canyon Airport, and Grand Canyon Village.
