A common summer resident of mixed conifer forests on the Kaibab Plateau. It is a rare summer resident of ponderosa pine forests elsewhere in the region, and an uncommon spring and fall migrant and winter resident in ponderosa pine and pinyon-juniper from 14 Sept through 3 May.
