An endangered subspecies, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax trailii extimus), and few if any pairs breed within the Grand Canyon in any given year. Away from the river, Willow Flycatcher is a rare fall migrant on the South Rim from 6 Aug to 3 Sept. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011.
