Occurrence Notes
Pacific-slope Flycatcher and Cordilleran Flycatcher were previously considered the same species, “Western Flycatcher.” Away from the breeding grounds, only calling males can be identified to species, so most individuals must still be identified only as “Western Flycatchers.” Although Pacific-slope Flycatcher is likely a rare to uncommon spring and fall migrant, especially in the western portion of the region, there are currently only four records. All four records are from pinyon-juniper woodlands in the western portion of the region. Spring and fall migrant “Western Flycatchers” are uncommon throughout the region, with spring migrants seen from 7 May to 8 Jun and fall migrants from 2 Aug to 25 Sept. Conditions may vary among subspecies. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
