Occurrence Notes
A casual summer visitor, Cassin’s Sparrow made a remarkable incursion to Upper Sonoran grasslands in the region during the summer of 2011. At least eight individuals were near Peach Springs on 16 Jul 2011 (Lauren Harter, David Vander Pluym), while two more were photographed northwest of Valle on 21 Jul 2011 (Brian P. Gatlin). These records were part of a large-scale movement which found Cassin’s Sparrows in many areas of Arizona outside their normal range during the summer of 2011. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
