This is one of our most commonly seen butterflies spring, summer and fall. However, with their hurried flight one may never be certain it isn’t one of the other Pontia sp. Even with a captured specimen, it is easy to mistake Pontia occidentalis for Pontia protodice. All of the Pontia sp. larvae feed on weedy mustard species, such as London Rocket, Sisymbrium irio and Tansy Mustard, Descurainia pinnata.
