Occurrence Notes
Specimen(s) collected during a study of coastal rock pools of Lake Superior at Isle Royale. Two shoreline zones were differentiated using a line between upslope “lichen zone” pools and downslope “splash zone” pools. See citation for details.
Distribution — Nearctic range includes PA, GA, and NC, with a general eastern U.S. distribution.
Ecology — Northern and montane lakes and streams, or restricted to streams in southern areas of Europe. Potthastia described for flowing water generally.
Remarks — IRNP specimens from splash zone pools. Possible that there is a Nearctic-Palearctic difference in species that are currently all labelled P. gaedii.
