Abundance Notes
In eastern North America the species is widespread north of the Mason-Dixon line, but further south it is more restricted to higher elevations in the Appalachian mountains. In Canada it is found as far west as British Columbia, but not further south into the western mountains. (Oliver Flint, 1/25/10)

Notes
It is not specifically stated that the larvae make a trash packet, but considering their close morphological similarity to M. emucta, it is quite probable that they do. (Oliver Flint, 1/25/10)
