Park Species Detail: Connery et al. (1998): Reported this species during searches of watersheds within the park during 1997. Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996. Long (1987): Generally found around man-made structures. Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; A hand-written note lists an observation of this species on Thompson Island on 31 March 1977. There is usually a pair in the Sieur de Monts Spring area and under the boat house on the east side of Seal Harbor Long Pond. Bond (1969) frequent in the beaver flowages between Halfmoon Pond and Witch Hole Pond, where they nest. Long (1953) nest found at Southwest Harbor in an old abandoned shelter on 13 July 1950, now species has established itself as a common breeding bird on MDI. Long (1951) a nest was found in Tremont containing 4 fully fledged young on 13 July 1950. Palmer (1949): Most if not all of the birds on MDI appear to be unmated. Bond (1949): Bond found this species on MDI on the upper end of Somes Sound Bond (19??) summer resident, probably does not nest every year on MDI; one or more nests have been found. Tyson and Bond (1941): Most if not all birds on MDI appear to be unmated. Sullivan (1937): Rare summer resident (Pellew). Eliot (1931): Observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 13 June 1915. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 24 May 1916. Allen (1899): not uncommon on MDI between 1880 and 1899., Park Species Data Source: Connery et al.
