Occurrence Notes
An uncommon and possibly expanding permanent resident of low-elevation desertscrub in the western portion of the region. Brown et al. (1985, 1987) report the species as patchy and local in its distribution, upstream to Spencer Canyon (RM 246) and on Hualapai lands in Diamond Creek (RM 226). The Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas found Cactus Wren “almost continuously up into the lower Granite Gorge” which extends to RM 216 (Wise-Gervais 2005g, 403). A pair at Tuweep Ranger Station on 22-23 Jun 2010 (Troy Corman) was well to the northeast of and above the elevations and habitats where the species is typically found. Data source: Gatlin, BP. 2011. Annotated Checklist of the Birds of the Grand Canyon Region. 3rd edition.
