Park Species Detail: Sharp (1997) Recorded from within park boundaries during the Breeding Bird Survey conducted June 1996.
Long (1987): common on MDI.
North and Chidester (1986) Observed from Jordan Cliffs between July and September 1986.
Russell (1984?) common spring through fall; maximum fall count of 50+ in the Otter Point area on 18 September 1973 (W. Russell); in May and June, numbers can be heard calling on the lower slopes of Cadillac Mountain, also common in the birch areas along the Seal Cove Fire Road; fall migrants are concentrated at Otter Point and Ship Harbor.
Duley and North (1984) observed at Jordan Cliffs between May and September 1984.
Allen (1969): Present at Western Point; singing males observed (presumably on territory).
Bond (1969) song is often heard on sunny mountain slopes as well as in low country on MDI.
Bond (19??) common summer resident; 1 or more nests have been found.
Tyson and Bond (1941): Common summer resident on MDI and abundant on the backside of the island; Nest discovered at Wonderland.
Sullivan (1937): Abundant summer resident from May to September (Pellew); nest with four eggs reported by J. Bond at Seawall Bog on 8 June 1937.
Farley (1935) reported 18 pairs on MDI, observed between 12 June and 22 June 1934.
Eliot (1931): Common in the Northeast Harbor area, distributed over whole area, settled or wild. Also observed on MDI by Mr. And Mrs. C.R. Robbins on 4 June 1915 and 6 June 1916.
