Davis et al. 2016 split Crotalus viridis and oreganus, they are parapatric (organisms whose ranges do not significantly overlap but are immediately adjacent to each other; they do not occur together except in a narrow contact zone). See map in Davis et al. 2016 (Fig. 2), Farleigh et al. 2026: Fig. 2. This taxonomic revision renders all previous C. viridis records as invalid and replaces them with C. oreganus.
